Rest in Peace Root

I just learned that a friend of mine died on Oct. 5th. He was riding his motorcycle home in North Carolina and was hit and killed instantly by a logging truck. While living in Humboldt a few years ago he spent much of his time tree-sitting on Gypsy Mountain in the tree we called Aradia. He was on the front page of the Time-Standard after climbing on top of a logging truck during a protest blockade in front of the Eureka courthouse. He returned to his home region to join the struggle against Mountain Top Removal strip mining. His Mom says he had just started going to school at ABTech and was coming home for his Dads birthday and a protest against an "earth destroying developer" when he was killed. We will remember you Root.
