Statement From the Mattole Campaign

Mattole Wildlands Defense in support of the Trees Foundation.

We are opposed to the lawsuit brought against the Trees Foundation by Katheryn Miller and publicized by Shunka’s office (NCEF! Media).

We believe that the accusations of fraud against the Trees Foundation are false. Over the past several years North Coast Earth First! has practically disintegrated and in it’s place several autonomous direct action groups have formed including Mattole Wildlands Defense.

The Trees foundation assists MWD in our media and outreach efforts. Through our association with the Trees Foundation they have proven to be a trustworthy organization.

Not sure what th ebig hubub is. I think the laws of economics, capitalism, will determine which trees will and / or die.

And why has it disintegrated? Is it because we aren't willing to sit around in 14 hour meetings while Verbena beats us to death with her so-called consensus process?

There is more than one reason that NCEF! has disintegrated. For one thing there have been ongoing fueds between three or four parties for about four years. ( I'm guessing that you are one of those peole 8:52) Another big reason is a general lack of trust and solidarity within the greater direct action community. I don't think that overly long meetings are a big reason for disintegration. If you're not willing to sit at such a meeting then don't. I think meetings like that are more a symptom of disfunction than a cause.

I have nothing to do with Earth First but I agree with the sentiments expressed above, I've heard about these marathon meetings and they are a sure-fire way to drive away anyone who actually works for a living. Are you building a movement of the working class for real change, or just another ego-stroking circle for the chronic unemployed and professional spangers?

Point well made. Marathon meetings are not conducive to movement building.

Well Verbena certainly isn't promoting unity by attacking Greg Allen and other local activists just because they happen to work for a living.

Am I having a conversation with one person?

Has she attacked Greg Allen? Can you cite something? There is somebody else named Greg that she often denounces but it's not Greg Allen.

As far as attacking other local activists because they work for a living, that sounds like an unsubstantiated personal attack on your part. On what do you base that accusation?

I think I understand the comment about Greg Allen now. He's the lawyer representing Kathryn Miller in the lawsuit against the Trees Foundation. In my opinion it's a prety bad move.

As far as promoting unity is concerned, a Green Party activist participating in the lawsuit against the Trees Foundation doesn't do a whole lot for unity. The Trees Foundation works with over 30 environmental advocacy, restoration and protection groups. Many of these groups are right here in Humboldt. If anything he's open himself up to public criticism.

No.

It's still a legitimate question no matter how rude that questioner was. Why is it that we don't examine who gets represented by every leftist hippy lawyer in the county, starting with the SoHum crowd? Someone gave a donation under certain conditions and those conditions aren't being met. How is it evil for this person to ask for her money to either be spent in the instructed way or given back to her?
