Rock/Chadbourne THP 1-06-037

This is the newest logging plan in Bear River and covers 232 acres. It is not located on Maxxam/Pacific Lumber land but is surrounded by it on all sides. Scopac, part of Pacific Lumber submitted the plan to CDF. It seems they will be logging it as well (through independent contractors).
The type of logging proposed for most of the area is called "variable retention" and will leave small diameter trees and some larger trees behind. They proposed "tractor yarding", which means dragging logs around with bulldozers. This destroys the topsoil by compacting it and causing large amounts to wash down hill in heavy rains.
Some of the area has been "prescribed" for clear cutting. More on this plan later.
