Researching Logging Plans on the Internet

The THP list (Timber Harvest Plan) link takes you to the California Dept. of Forestrys' (CDF) page where you can view submitted THPs that have not yet been approved or were very recently approved.

The number 1-06-034 can be translated to; a plan in region 1-was filed in 2006-34th plan filed that year.

Region 1 includes Humboldt, Del Norte, Mendocino, Santa Cruz, Sonoma, and Trinity counties.

The township and range on the THP list can help you locate the logging areas within a square mile but is mainly useful if you have access to maps with township and range already laid out.

If you want to read a logging plan go to the THP library to find and download a pdf copy of the plan. Maps will be in Section 2, and Stand Descriptions in Section 3 of the plan document.

You can go toTopozoneto search for topographical maps using placenames provided in the THP list.

Sometimes its helpful to look at aerial photos.

Google earth is a big help. It gives you access to sattelite imagery and distance measurement all over the globe.
