New Oldgrowth Logging Plans Filed

above: from "Brush Up" THP, proposed clearcuts in Bear River.

Pacific Lumber, a subsidiary of the Maxxam corporation has filed three new plans to log ancient groves.Plans number 05-237 "PC Road" and 06-001 "Brush Up" are in the Bear River watershed on the north end of Rainbow Ridge. These plans call for logging 23.9 acres of oldgrowth DouglasFir, mostly clearcutting.
The other plan, 05-255 "LE Monument", is located on Monument Creek near Scotia, the mill town owned by Maxxam subsidiary Pacific Lumber. The forest is mixed Redwood and Douglas Fir. This plan calls for the logging of 44.4 acres of mature/oldgrowth stands. The Foresters employed by PL to create logging plans often try to downplay the quality or quantity of oldgrowth present. Unfortunatly, it is likely that more oldgrowth logging plans are on the way.
